OK folks, so the powers that be in the Virginia Department of Forestry decided to create the position of a recreation forester for Virginia's State Forests. I was brought on in November of 2009 to see if this idea could be successful. Well it's been five months and I have to say things are going pretty well. I have made many great new friends and contacts who share my passion for enjoying Virginia's abundant natural resources.
The Virginia Department of Forestry currently manages 20 state forests (with one more hopefully coming soon) that contain nearly 70,000 acres. These forests can be found throughout the Commonwealth with the largest forests being found in central Virginia. While many of these forests do not have much to offer in the way of recreational facilities, they do have a lot of potential. What I need are IDEAS! I am looking for input from current and potential users of our state forests to see what the public would like to see on the forests. I will be posting some of my current projects and ideas on here and I sincerely hope that you will comment on them to help me make the forests better. Stay tuned for updates and thank you for helping to make Virginia's forests even better!
