Friends of Holliday Lake State Park Meeting

So you may be thinking, why is Erik advertising for state parks? Well, simply put, the people who usually show interest in helping out the state parks will also show interest in helping out a neighboring state forest. Being a part of the "friends of" groups allows me to develop personal relationships with park staff and folks that care as much about our natural resources as I do. It is my hope that this will lead to a better cooperative relationship between the Department of Forestry and the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

The staff of Holliday Lake State Park and officers of the Friends of Holliday Lake State Park will hold an informational meeting for persons interested in joining the Friends of Holliday Lake State Park organization. The meeting will be held at the Holiday Lake 4-H center in Appomattox on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 6:30pm. Light refreshments will be provided.

Friends are a formal group of volunteers who have special interests to help support projects and programs that assist park management. These groups organize special events, raise money, schedule workdays and partner with local businesses. They also contact the media and the legislature to get the word out on issues important to parks. This is essential in today’s fiscal environment because of the budget and staff reductions. They are in essence, an advocacy group for the park.

For more information on the Friends of Holliday Lake State Park, please call 434-248-6308. Please contact the park if you plan to attend this meeting. For inquires about other park volunteer opportunities visit www.virginiastateparks.gov.
